Carlyle Coash

Carlyle Coash has worked in the local, regional and national palliative care and hospice movement for over 10 years. He is passionate about improving the quality of end-of-life care and expanding access to and knowledge of hospice services. He has served as Acting Executive Director of Zen Hospice Project, successfully managed the licensing of our beloved Guest House, and helped to shape and lead our Education Center and Grief Support Services.
As one of the first Buddhists to be Board Certified through the Association of Professional Chaplains, Carlyle continues to be at the forefront of integrating spiritual care into palliative and hospice care. He currently serves as the leader of the Spiritual Caregiving Section of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and was previously a member of their Ethics Committee and chair of the Education sub-committee. Additionally, Carlyle is part of an advisory group that is helping redesign the curriculum of Northwestern University’s Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (EPEC) training, an internationally renowned training program for physicians and end-of-life care.
Carlyle currently sits on New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care’s Council of Advisors and the Board of Directors for Wisdom Spring, a non-profit working on several initiatives in Africa. Previously, he was the Spiritual Care Manager with Kaiser San Jose Medical Center’s palliative care department. He holds a Master’s degree from Naropa University and a Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.
